HARDWOOD

Ghana is known for its rich forestry resources and produces several types of hardwood that are licensed for export.

Here are some of the licensed hardwood types in Ghana:

Mahogany (Khaya spp.): Mahogany is a popular hardwood that is widely used for furniture making, flooring, and boatbuilding. It is prized for its durability, stability, and attractive reddish-brown color.

Teak (Tectona grandis): Teak is another popular hardwood that is widely used for furniture, flooring, and outdoor construction. It is known for its durability, resistance to rot and insects, and attractive golden-brown color.

Wawa (Triplochiton scleroxylon): Wawa is a versatile hardwood that is used for furniture making, paneling, and construction. It is prized for its light color, stability, and ease of working.

Odum (Milicia excelsa): Odum is a hardwood that is used for furniture making, flooring, and construction. It is known for its durability, strength, and attractive reddish-brown color.

Sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricum): Sapele is a popular hardwood that is used for furniture making, flooring, and paneling. It is known for its durability, stability, and attractive reddish-brown color with a distinctive ribbon stripe pattern.

Ebony (Diospyros spp.): Ebony is a dense hardwood that is used for musical instruments, carving, and decorative objects. It is prized for its deep black color, fine texture, and high natural luster.

These are just some of the licensed hardwood types in Ghana. The export of hardwood is strictly regulated by the government to ensure sustainable forest management and prevent illegal logging. Before exporting, the hardwood must be harvested from legal and sustainable sources and accompanied by a valid export permit.
